SOLVED Error 420106 Component selector lever position not disabled
I would like to share with all of you this fault with the parking function of the selector lever of the automatic gearbox in these cars. From what I understand Mini also has this type of lever and there are many problems with it.
The defect warned the customer through the ignition, to place the lever in P as soon as the door was opened or the engine started, even if the lever was in the correct Parking position.
Basically, the ecu uses a Hall-type sensor to check the position and deduce the possibility of warning the driver if the car might move.
Even if you move the lever, the message on the picture is incessant.
We opted to replace the lever block with rope (€ 500+) and to replace it you have to dismantle the central tunnel, exhaust, various bulkheads, battery drawer and many other parts, a job that takes about four hours.
If you wish, the defect can be solved by disassembling only the centre tunnel, as you can see from the photos you can proceed to dismantle the lever down to the white bracket with the lever position magnets.
A very small spring is mounted on this bracket, which usually breaks and which can be taken back if desired to restore its effectiveness.
Now it is up to you to decide whether to change the lever block or repair the spring ;-)
The lever block once replaced is not to be coded.
I also attach a few pictures to better understand the position of the spring.
