2015 FIAT Panda 1.2 8v - DTC engine warning light P0340
Good morning, today we bring you a solved case that we hope you will find useful.
The vehicle came to the workshop for sporadic switching on of the engine fault light and the following error codes:
- P0340-62 Camshaft Sensor - Signal Comparison Fault;
- P0009-62 Motor Position Performance - Signal Comparison Fault.
The engine ignition timing was checked with jigs, the phase shifter functioned correctly and the phase sensor was replaced: regular test results, but the defect sometimes recurred.
Also checked the continuity of the sensor wiring without finding any anomalies.
We therefore recommended an air gap check of the phase sensor: given a phase sensor nose length of 28 mm, and a nominal air gap of 0.5 mm, the depth measured on the tappet cover housing at the camshaft handwheel fins should be between 28.5 mm and 29.7 mm.
Instead, the workshop measured a value of 30.2 mm.
It was therefore concluded that the tappet cover was not fitted correctly, in fact the 1.2 8v with phase shifter requires the cover to be correctly aligned with the jig, a photo of which is given below.
After the correct alignment, the car no longer exhibited the errors: unfortunately, there is no trace of previous work carried out in other workshops.
I hope a case like this will be useful.
On behalf of the technical help desk team, I wish you good work.
