Android Auto puts the most useful apps on your phone screen or on compatible car displays in a format that allows you to stay focused on driving. You can manage features such as navigation and maps, calls, text messages and music.

A phone running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later with a data plan.
For optimal performance, the latest version of Android is recommended.

The Android Auto app. If you use Android 10 or later, the app is already installed on your phone.

A compatible Android smartphone with an active data plan and the latest version of the Android Auto app:
Any smartphone with Android 11.0 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. In the European Union, smartphones have to meet additional regulatory requirements to be able to use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network in cars.
A Google or Samsung smartphone with Android 10.0.
A Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ or Note 8 phone running Android 9.0.

A holder for the phone to be mounted in the car (optional but recommended).

Setting up the Android Auto app
If you are using Android Auto for the first time, here are some initial steps:

Step 1: prepare the phone and the car
Make sure your phone meets the minimum requirements.
Check that your car is compatible with Android Auto and that it is active in the car's settings. If in doubt, contact your local dealer.
Make sure your phone has a stable and fast connection to the data network.
Step 2: connect the phone
Start the engine before connecting the phone for the first time. You have to park and have enough time to set up Android Auto before you start driving.
Connect one end of a USB cable to the vehicle's USB port and the other end to your Android phone.
On your phone you may be asked to download the Android Auto app or upgrade to the latest version of the app.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the configuration.
The phone's Bluetooth is automatically activated when Android Auto is connected to the car via USB.
Step 3: start Android Auto
Select Android Auto on the car's display. Follow the instructions shown to get started.
Drive safely. Pay attention to driving and road conditions and always obey applicable laws.

Step 1: prepare the phone and the car
Make sure your phone meets the minimum requirements.
Check that your car is compatible with the Wireless functionality for Android Auto. If in doubt, contact your local dealer.
Make sure your phone has a stable and fast connection to the data network.
Step 2: connect the phone
Important: For the first connection of the phone to the car, you must pair it via Bluetooth. For best results, keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Geolocation Services active during setup. You need to park and have enough time to set up Android Auto before you start driving.
Connect one end of a USB cable to the vehicle's USB port and the other end to your Android phone.
On your phone you may be asked to download the Android Auto app or upgrade to the latest version of the app.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the configuration.
Step 3: start Android Auto
It may take a few seconds to start the wireless connection. You may have to tap Android Auto on the car's display.
Step 4: disconnect the phone (from wireless projection)
If you no longer want to use Android Auto wirelessly, tap Exit Auto Mode on the phone's notification screen.

Step 1: get your phone ready
Make sure your phone has Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later installed. For optimal performance, the latest version of Android is recommended.
If you are using Android 9 or earlier, download the Android Auto app from Google Play. If you use Android 10, follow these instructions.
Make sure your phone has a stable and fast network connection. It is advisable to use Android Auto for the first time within range of the Wi-Fi network to install it at maximum speed.
Step 2: start Android Auto
On Android 9 or earlier, open Android Auto. On Android 10, open Android Auto for phones.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the configuration.
If you have already paired your phone with Bluetooth in the car or cradle, select the device to activate Android Auto start.
If problems persist, visit the Android Auto community.
